Some of us were born with a sweet tooth, BUT we all know sugar isn’t the best thing in the world for us. so what should we do?
Thankfully, there are plenty of fantastic ways to satisfy your sweet tooth without consuming processed sugar. Don't be ashamed of your love for sweets! Embrace it (in moderation) with some of our delectable suggestions below.
Get crafty with your fruit to make it more satisfying.. Strawberries dipped in dark chocolate? Banana and nut butter? Frozen Grapes? YUM!
There are so many snack bars that have zero processed sugars in them and taste just like a dessert! Have you tried RX Bars? Look for sweet snacks with simple ingredients and read the labels carefully to make sure that there are no harmful additives.
Either purchase from the store or make your own! Trail mix is a great way to fill up on nutrients and also keep your cravings at bay. Our B's Snack Mixes are also GREAT similar alternatives to trail mix and are full of healthy varieties and flavors to choose from!
Yogurt oftentimes has added sugars and dairy. Thankfully, dairy-free and no added sugar yogurt alternatives are becoming more and more common. Make sure that you read the labels though! If you can’t find any brands without sugar, simply purchase a plain yogurt and add your own fruit, stevia, or honey to the yogurt to sweeten it up.
Smoothies are a great way to make your taste buds happy :) You can even add greens, granola, milk alternatives, yogurt, and seeds to your smoothies to make them more filling and nutrient dense.
Why not get your sweet fix and hydrate at the same time? There are clean seltzer waters available today that can satiate any sweet tooth. If you're on a strict paleo diet, be sure to stay away from natural flavors in the ingredient list. There are even paleo soda brands out there that taste just like soda and are paleo certified!
Our favorite clean seltzer water is from Spindrift, and Olipop is an amazing soda alternative!
If you can enjoy nut butters, indulging by the spoonful or spreading them on your apples are perfect when you want a sweet treat. Though high in calories, they are full of healthy fats and real ingredients. A good nut butter is immensely better for you than that "100 calorie snack pack" full of low-quality ingredients and processed sugar.
If you're a chocoholic, be on the lookout for dark chocolates with a cocoa percentage over 70%. With proven health benefits and full of antioxidants, your sweet tooth can be healthy too. If you want to be as clean as possible, look for organic or fair trade dark chocolate that doesn't contain trans fat, milk, artificial flavorings, high amounts of sugar and other unnecessary ingredients.
These are some easy foods you can grab when in a sweet tooth craving pops up. With a little bit of creativity and research, you can find so many different ways to create your own sweet treats using simple ingredients.
There’s no reason you can’t have your cake and eat it too :)
